Tips for successful establishment
White clover seed crops are generally now in the ground. Some important things to remember for successful establishment are:
• If direct drilling or sowing is later, an application of 100kg/ha of Sulphate of Ammonia (SOA) may be considered to promote growth before winter.
• It is also crucial to monitor for slugs in establishing stands while clover is still young. Applying slug bait is a must in directly drilled paddocks.
• If looking to finish lambs or sowing later, consider sowing with ryegrass or oats to protect against frost lift and provide extra grazing in the spring.
• During establishment and pre-winter, it is also a great time to apply broadleaf weed herbicides to take out any yield-limiting weeds.
